Thanks for visiting the Mid Columbia Soarers (MCS) web site. We are an AMA chartered club whose main mission is caretaker of Eagle Butte. Eagle is one of the best slope sites in the West. We also fly at Kiona Butte and are working on an access agreement for Chandler Butte. In addition to these excellent slope sites we have an arrangement with Basin Sod near Eltopia where there is great Thermal flying.

With all that great slope and fields of grass access and the name Mid-Columbia Soarers you might think soaring is all we're about. Wrong! Our members fly everything from ultra-lite indoor planes to quarter scale monsters. If you don't pour the fuel in it, we fly it!

    The Westchester investment group that owns Eagle Butte has leased the land to a local farmer. The oringinal access road no longer exists. The farm,er has no problem with our flying there however the only access to the top is by the very south road by the water tower.

    This years crop he put in is corn. This will make landing a challenge toward the end of the season. His main crops are potatos and timothy which won't be as much of a concern in the future. I approached him about creating a landing zone in the field but he decided that it would be an unwelcome obsticle to his farming efforts at this time. I told him we would wait a season and see what his yeild was in the area closest to the road up there. My quess is that the winds will batter the crops enough that he may not want to waste the seed on that portion of the slope. He has told me that he has no problem with fliers retrieving their plane from the planted areas.

    With any luck at all this problem will handle itself. Please be responsable while on the slope and help keep a good repore with the farmer.
